Biography
John Hajek is Convenor of Italian and director of the Research Unit for Multilingualism and Cross-cultural Communication (RUMACCC) in the School. He is also project leader for the ALTC-funded Languages and Cultures Network for Australian Universities (LCNAU). Trained originally in Italian, French and Romance linguistics, he completed his studies in Italy and Great Britain before returning to Melbourne. He has extensive experience in teaching language (Italian and Tetum) and linguistics (Italian, Romance and general) and has published across a wide range of research areas. He is currently editing with Catrin Norrby a volume on language policy issues around the world. Other projects under way include address practices in Italy and Europe as well as the description of minority and endangered languages in Italy, Europe and the Asia-Pacific.
