Mag. art. (Vienna), Dr. phil. (Vienna), Diploma for Teaching in Higher Education (Oxford).

 

Research interests and areas of supervision

Case Studies, genre, modernism, exile and migrant literature, contemporary German and Austrian literature, history of sexuality.

 

Biography

Birgit completed her tertiary education at the University of Vienna. She has worked as a researcher for the Austrian Ministry of Science and Humanities and has held post-doctoral lectureships at Duke University and at the Simon-Dubnow-Institute for Jewish History and Culture at the University of Leipzig. Before coming to Melbourne in 2006, she spent three years lecturing at Oxford University. In Semester 1 2009 she was a Research Fellow at the International Centre for Cultural Studies (IFK) in Vienna. She is the responsible CI of the ARC project Making the Case: The Case Study Genre in Sexology, Psychoanalysis and Literature (with Joy Damousi and Katie Sutton) and co-organizer of the conference Cases and Their Publics: Interdisciplinary and Transnational Perspectives on the Case Study Genre at The University of Melbourne, 26-28 September 2011.
